Around the globe Health & Safety odd-bits ----------------------------------------------------------------- Woman sacked for wearing high heels A secretary who was sacked in Brazil for wearing high heels has won back her job. The woman, 32, from Taboao da Serra, sued for unfair dismissal after she lost her job for the Planarc Company. The company admitted sacking her only because she wore high heels to work, reports Folha de Sao Paulo. The company´s lawyer said that her choice of footwear made her more likely to fall, injuring herself and potentially costing the company money. "She was an accident waiting to happen!" he said. But an industrial tribunal ruled that the company would have been within its rights to discipline the woman but not to fire her. The company was ordered to offer the woman, who cannot be named, her job back. Workers paid bonuses for chin-ups A Finnish employer is offering £115 cash bonuses to workers who can do more chin-ups than he can. Crane company boss Pekka Niska from Helsinki said the health push may cost him money but will be worth it to have fit and healthy staff. Mr Niska, who at 66 still has bulging biceps and a washboard stomach, said: "I want fit employees. Even if it costs me hundreds of thousands of pounds it will be worth it in the end because their output will increase four-fold." Workers who want to go jogging during the day can also take up to an hour on full pay beside their lunch hour, and Niska will pay 70p for every kilometre they run after work. Employee Anette Hollander said: "I have so much more energy after a 10 kilometre jog that I get much more done at work than I normally would." However, Niska's plan to offer a £350 bonus to those who do not take any sick days all year has been criticised by some, who say it will encourage genuinely sick people to keep working.
