---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Ten top tips to ensure your data is secure ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Security is a critical part of business, but what steps have you taken to ensure that employees contribute to the protection of your organisation’s physical assets and electronic data?
There have been many reports in the media recently, regarding the loss of large amounts of personal data by the government. Some recent headlines include: Lost in the post: the personal details of 25 million people - The Independent - December 2007 Details of 3m learner drivers lost, government admits - The Guardian- December 2007 Data on 7,685 motorists lost - The Guardian - December 2007
Following these ten tips can help prevent information security breaches affecting your company:
Maintain your firewalls
Install anti-virus and anti-spyware software
Install operating system updates
Change passwords regularly
Encrypt data
Set up security protection/training
Set up device control
Protect hard copies
Be aware of phishing
Monitor physical access
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Security Awareness Training ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Have you stopped to consider how stringent security protocol and procedure is at your own organisation?
Would staff benefit from a short online training course to remind them of best practice regarding data protection?
Given that security arrangements and requirements vary from organisation to organisation, any such course would have to be site specific. With the huge outlay involved in creating and maintaining bespoke training content using an external e-learning provider, a relevant and effective training package may seem beyond reach.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. EssentialSkillz Content Development Tool ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
With the EssentialSkillz Content Development Tool (or CDT for short), an online training course can be produced in house, without 'breaking the bank' and delivered rapidly to the end user. This is the first tool of its kind aimed specifically at the Health & Safety sector.
Tests can be added using the quiz tool and completion and pass rates tracked by the O-LAS Learning and Assessment System.
Start from scratch or refresh and revitalise existing training content such as PowerPoint presentations or videos by converting them into online training content. All of this can be done without any programming knowledge.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Create material on any H&S related subject ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Address any company specific issues or respond to hot topics with rapid production content.
The CDT tool is included as part of our generic course library, allowing you to create bespoke content to compliment this portfolio or even design additional modules to attach to existing courses. It is available with all of our licensing options – perpetual, annual subscription and flexible training credits.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. CDT Case Study ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Epwin, through its wholly owned subsidiary SBP Limited, operates over 30 businesses achieving a turnover of £185M in 2005 and employs a workforce in excess of 2200.
They were looking to deliver a group specific manual handling training course as part of their induction programme entitled “One Foot and Move It”
Epwin had developed a 30 minute video that they wanted to roll out to staff, but needed some sort of mechanism to track take up rates and test levels of understanding.
EssentialSkillz were able to create a short module to introduce the footage, explain more about the training process and link through to the video. A test was added to verify that users had watched and listened attentively.
This work was completed in one day and the course rolled out within one week of invoice.
“The CDT format was straightforward to use and the roll out of the training program was then so effortless to do”. Lynn Edwards Group SHEQ Manager
