The increasing use at work of computers and other display screen equipment has brought with it a range of health hazards. The hazards identified with workstation use are:

•  Physical (musculoskeletal) and Repetitive Strain Injuries,  such as  'Carpal Tunnel Syndrome' and 'Mouse Finger'
•  Visual fatigue and eye strain
•  Mental stress

Workstation Essentials is a 30-minute course which teaches employees how to avoid the conditions commonly associated with inappropriate workstation use and ensure that you meet your legal obligations with regard to providing information and training to all workstation users. The course covers the requirements of the Display Screen Regulations. Taken at the individual's workstation this course has an immediate impact on learner behaviour.

Workstation Essentials covers
Physical Hazards - Covers the physical musculoskeletal hazards associated with incorrect workstation use.
Causes of Injury - Highlights the main causes of physical hazards such as inappropriate equipment, badly positioned hands and wrists and too much time in the same position.
Avoid Injury - Increases awareness of how to prevent these physical hazards by showing how to sit correctly, organise a workstation effectively and vary tasks and posture throughout the day.
Eye strain - Deals with how to prevent workstation-induced visual problems such as headaches and eye fatigue.
VDU-related Stress - highlights that VDU-related stress is not related to the actual VDU but rather to the working environment and the nature of tasks performed.
Frequently Asked Questions - Covers commonly asked questions about working with a Visual Display Unit and also includes a section on laptop use.
Final Quiz - There is also a final quiz at the end which tests their retention and understanding of the course material.
