The message in this course is that all asbestos is dangerous if disturbed, but that the risk can be managed. The course explains the consequences of disturbance, and describes how to work safely in workplaces which contain asbestos. It does not cover any techniques for the removal of asbestos.
Because this course does not follow the UKATA syllabus, it is able to leave out a lot of technical and management information. For example, there is no information about the shape of fibres under a microscope, the names of the minerals, or the colour labels given to different types of asbestos fibres. Instead, it provides practical information, with examples, of the locations where asbestos is found. Images are used to help the learner recognise the types of locations or objects that might contain asbestos.
The course explains when and how to use an asbestos register to avoid disturbing asbestos, and what to do if there are any concerns about the accuracy of the asbestos register, or the state of the asbestos.
Like all EssentialSkillz courses, this Asbestos Awareness eLearning course can be customised to meet your needs, enabling your workforce to understand the specific policies and procedures developed for your organisation. A designated course administrator can edit the text and images within the course, and link to organisation-specific documentation, all at no extra cost.
