Course Introduction

Designed to provide continued support to managers and supervisors, the IOSH Managing Safely Refresher course is available to any manager or supervisor who has previously completed the IOSH Managing Safely course.

The course features a range of interactive exercises, quizzes, drag and drop exercises and case studies, to test your understanding. Throughout the course, there are also a number of short films to further explain key concepts and a series of animations that explain key terminology.

Is there an exam?

Yes, once you have completed all seven modules, you need to take an online exam which comprises of 21 questions – a mixture of true or false, multiple-choice and ‘drag and drop’ type questions.

The exam pass mark is 20 from a possible 32 marks.

Who is it for?

  • The IOSH Managing Safely Refresher is aimed at managers, team leaders and supervisors with health and safety responsibility for teams or departments who have completed the full IOSH Managing safely course at some point previously.
  • The IOSH Managing Safely Refresher course is aimed at all sectors.


You can complete the course from any PC, laptop, tablet or phone at any time. Whilst the course will work on any device, for best optimisation we recommend you access the majority of the course from a PC or laptop.


Once completed, IOSH will issue you with an official certificate. The Managing Safely Refresher course is based on life-long learning so has no expiration date. However, it is viewed as best practice to complete the refresher again every three years.

How long will it take?

IOSH recommend that students spend around 8 hours completing the course although the course can be completed at your own pace, whatever this may be.
