Description

The EssentialSkillz Noise at Work online training explains what sound is and how it impacts both health and safety. The Noise Awareness training explains how noise and noise exposure are measured, so that the user can interpret noise surveys and use them in a risk assessment, but is not intended as a comprehensive course on carrying out noise surveys. The hierarchy of noise controls is explained, with an emphasis on eliminating sources of noise, reducing noise at source, and minimising time spent exposed to noise. Where hearing protection is needed to manage the residual risk, the Noise at Work training outlines how to select and wear hearing protection, although this is not a substitute for manufacturers’ information on products, or for a face-to-face demonstration and assessment of correct use of hearing protection.

Like all our courses, the EssentialSkillz Noise Awareness online training can be customised to meet your needs, enabling your workforce to understand the specific policies and procedures you have developed for your organisation. A designated course administrator can use the integrated authoring tool to edit the text and images within the course, and link to organisation-specific documentation, for example a map showing hearing protection areas in your workplace and the location of different types of hearing protection.

Course Objectives

  • To understand how noise can affect your health
  • To identify sources of noise
  • To explain how noise exposure can be reduced

Course Details

Certification

Once the course is completed, users will be required to take a final test (see Test).  On successful completion of the test, users can download and print a certificate.

The course is RoSPA approved

Duration

The course lasts approximately 45 minutes, although this can depend on the level of existing knowledge.

Test

Users are required to take a final test consisting of 10 default questions. The default pass mark is 70%

The course administrator within your organisation can:

  • Change the pass mark
  • Implement the random test question feature which selects 10 questions from a bank of 20.
  • Can specify that more than 10 questions must be answered (up to the full bank of 20 questions)

Target Audience:

Any employees or contractors could usefully use this course as part of an induction process, or as refresher training. It is also useful for someone who needs to interpret a noise survey from a specialist in order to carry out a risk assessment of a workplace.  If hearing protection is needed, selection of hearing protection should take account of information from manufacturers as well as the content of this course. Where hearing protection is worn a face-to-face demonstration should be given by a competent person, and users should be given feedback to assess if they understand how to use it correctly.
