Slips, trips and falls can happen in any working environment, in any industry, whether you work indoors at a desk or outdoors with heavy machinery. While many are minor, some can leave people’s health permanently damaged and others can even be fatal.
Statistic on accidents reported to the Health & Safety Executive and through RIDDOR show that slips, trips and falls from height are the three most common causes of injuries in the workplace. Together, they were responsible for over a third of all reported injuries, over half of all major incidents and nearly 30% of all injuries that last over seven days. An estimated 1.5 million working days is lost in the UK due to injuries related to slips, trips and falls.
As with all health and safety issues, the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 sets out the responsibilities of both employers and their workforce when it comes to avoiding hazards and taking steps to control identified risks.
The EssentialSkillz Slips, Trips & Falls online training explains what could be considered as workplace hazards, and examines how slips, trips and falls occur in different work environments. It identifies the importance of risk identification, accident prevention and good housekeeping procedures. The Slips and Trips training also highlights the responsibilities of each employee to protect themselves and others, by following the relevant procedures.
Like all the EssentialSkillz courses, this Slips, Trips and Falls training can be customised to meet your needs, enabling your workforce to understand the specific policies and procedures you have developed for your organisation. A designated course administrator can edit the text and images within the course, and link to organisation-specific documentation, all at no extra cost.
