Cwmbran Magistrates’ Court has fined a vehicle seat manufacturing company based in Ebbw Vale, £40,000 and ordered to pay costs of £12,010 after an employee was injured at work.
The company pleaded guilty to breaching Regulations 5,6, and 9 of Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002 (DSEAR).
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) investigated the incident and reported that an explosion was caused when a flammable release agent ignited. The explosion caused burns to the worker’s head and hands.
The court heard that the company had failed to have suitable control measures in place to prevent explosion and injury.
